Tsitsipas triumphiert zum dritten Mal in Monte Carlo
Nächster Sieg beim Lieblingsturnier: Der griechische Tennisprofi Stefanos Tsitsipas hat zum dritten Mal nach 2021 und 2022 das Masters in Monte Carlo gewonnen. Der 25-Jährige schlug im Finale den Norweger Casper Ruud, der weiter auf seinen ersten Masters-Titel warten muss, deutlich mit 6:1, 6:4.
Tsitsipas, der im Achtelfinale Olympiasieger Alexander Zverev und im Halbfinale Australia-Open-Sieger Jannik Sinner geschlagen hatte, ließ Ruud im ersten Satz keine Chance. Im zweiten Durchgang ging es ausgeglichener zu, doch Tsitsipas verwandelte den ersten Matchball. Der griechische Sandplatzspezialist hatte im Anschluss an seinen letzten Monte-Carlo-Titel lange mit seiner Form zu kämpfen gehabt, präsentiert sich in diesem Jahr aber bislang stark.
Ruud dagegen verpasste das Sieger-Preisgeld von knapp 920.000 Euro und den ersten größeren Titel seiner Karriere. Der Finalist der French Open von 2023 konnte seinen überraschenden Halbfinalsieg über den Weltranglistenersten Novak Djokovic nicht vergolden.
