Norris holt Startplatz eins für China-Sprint
Max Verstappen rutschte, er kämpfte mit seinen Reifen - und musste eine seltene Niederlage einstecken: Der Formel-1-Weltmeister geht nur von Startplatz vier ins Sprintrennen in Shanghai am Samstag. Die Pole Position im Regen holte sich McLaren-Pilot Lando Norris vor Rekordweltmeister Lewis Hamilton (Mercedes) und Routinier Fernando Alonso im Aston Martin.
Nico Hülkenberg (Emmerich) belegte im Haas den 13. Platz. Die hochgehandelten Ferrari-Piloten Carlos Sainz (5.) und Charles Leclerc (7.) konnten von den schwierigen Bedingungen nicht profitieren, Leclerc flog sogar spektakulär ab, konnte aber weiterfahren. Verstappens Teamkollege Sergio Perez startet als Sechster.
"Es war schwierig da draußen", sagte Norris: "Bei diesen Bedingungen riskiert man immer etwas. Aber ich war schnell und bin glücklich. Schade, dass es kein richtiges Qualifying ist."
Nach dem Sprintrennen am Samstag (5.00 Uhr MESZ), in dem bis zu acht WM-Punkte zu gewinnen sind, findet das Qualifying (9.00) für den Grand Prix am Sonntag (9.00/jeweils bei Sky) statt.
Verstappen gewann drei der vier bisherigen Saisonrennen, in Australien schied er wegen eines Defekts aus. Die WM führt der Niederländer mit 13 Punkten Vorsprung auf Perez an.
