Bundestrainer Nagelsmann verlängert Vertrag
Julian Nagelsmann hat dem Werben des Deutschen Fußball-Bundes (DFB) nachgegeben und seinen Vertrag als Bundestrainer bis zur WM 2026 verlängert. Die Entscheidung gab der Verband am Freitag bekannt, 56 Tage vor Beginn der Heim-EM am 14. Juni.
Spätestens mit dem Sieg beim Vize-Weltmeister Frankreich (2:0) am 23. März hatte Nagelsmann auch die letzten Zweifler von seinem Weg überzeugt. Der 36-Jährige entschied sich nach Vorlage des Angebots und Bedenkzeit gegen eine mögliche Rückkehr zu seinem Ex-Klub Bayern München, der Berichten zufolge erneut großes Interesse an Nagelsmann hatte.
"Das ist eine Entscheidung des Herzens. Es ist eine große Ehre, die Nationalmannschaft trainieren und mit den besten Spielern des Landes arbeiten zu dürfen", sagte Nagelsmann und fügte an: "Gemeinsam wollen wir jetzt eine erfolgreiche Heim-EM spielen, dafür brennen wir alle. Danach freue ich mich gemeinsam mit meinem Trainerteam sehr auf die Herausforderung einer Weltmeisterschaft."
Die DFB-Spitze ist glücklich. "Es ist ein starkes Signal für den DFB und die Nationalmannschaft, dass Julian Nagelsmann über die Heim-EM hinaus Bundestrainer bleibt. Denn er steht bei vielen großen Klubs in ganz Europa auf dem Wunschzettel. Aber die Nationalmannschaft ist für Julian Nagelsmann mehr als ein Job, sie ist ihm eine echte Herzensangelegenheit", sagte Präsident Bernd Neuendorf.
