Riad: Werth verpasst sechsten Titel - Fry zieht zurück
Die deutsche Dressurikone Isabell Werth hat in Riad ihren sechsten Titel beim Weltcupfinale ganz knapp verpasst. Die erfolgreichste Reiterin der Welt und ihr Wallach Quantaz steigerten sich im Vergleich zu ihrem holprigen Grand Prix deutlich, konnten aber nicht vom kurzfristigen Ausfall der Weltmeisterin Charlotte Fry und Everdale profitieren. Den Sieg holte sich zum ersten Mal der Schwede Patrik Kittel mit Touchdown. Werth kam auf Platz drei.
"Ich glaube, es ist das erste Finale, mit drei Reitern auf dem Podium, die nicht mal ein Punkt trennt", sagte Werth nach dem Wettkampf. Trotz des verpassten Titels war sie glücklich: "Es war sehr aufregend, sehr lustig."
Mit 81,404 Prozent trennten Werth von Kittel (81,661) nur Nuancen. Den zweiten Platz sicherte sich die Dänin Nanna Skodborg Merrald (81,429) mit Don Olymbrio. Die Britin Fry, nach ihrem Sieg im Grand Prix klare Favoritin auf den Sieg, war umgedreht, kurz bevor sie auf das Viereck ritt. Im Anschluss wurde ihr Verzicht auf die Kür durchgesagt, Everdale hatte Blut am Maul und konnte nicht starten.
Debütant Raphael Netz, der in Saudi-Arabien erstmals in einem Weltcupfinale ritt, zeigte mit Great Escape Camelot erneut eine fehlerfreie Performance und wurde wie schon im Grand Prix starker Fünfter (76,482) in der Kür. Matthias Alexander Rath belegte auf Destacado ebenfalls mit einer soliden Vorstellung vor Netz den Vierten Rang (77,850).
