Xavi bleibt doch Trainer in Barcelona
Rücktritt vom Rücktritt: Xabi bleibt nun doch über das Saisonende hinaus Trainer beim FC Barcelona. Das bestätigten die Katalanen der Nachrichtenagentur AFP. Der frühere Welt- und Europameister hatte Ende Januar seinen Abschied angekündigt. Nun erfolgte die Wende, Xavi (44) will seinen Vertrag (Laufzeit bis 2025) erfüllen.
Bislang war der Klub wie einige andere europäische Schwergewichte - darunter Bayern München und der FC Liverpool - auf Trainersuche, auch Ex-Bundestrainer Hansi Flick wurde als Xavis Nachfolger gehandelt.
Barcelona läuft in dieser Saison den Erwartungen hinterher. In der Liga liegt der Titelverteidiger mit den deutschen Nationalspielern Ilkay Gündogan und Marc-Andre ter Stegen elf Punkte hinter Real Madrid, die Meisterschaft ist verloren. Im Pokal scheiterte Barca im Viertelfinale an Athletic Bilbao, in der Champions League ebenfalls in der Runde der letzten Acht an Paris St. Germain.
