Medien: Newey will Red Bull verlassen - zu Ferrari?
"Superhirn" Adrian Newey will das Formel-1-Weltmeisterteam Red Bull offenbar verlassen. Wie das Fachmagazin auto motor und sport sowie die BBC übereinstimmend berichten, hat der Chefdesigner die Verantwortlichen bereits über seinen Wunsch informiert. Hintergrund seien Irritationen Neweys über die Causa Christian Horner.
Eine Mitarbeiterin hatte Red-Bull-Teamchef Christian Horner in der Winterpause "unangemessenes Verhalten" vorgeworfen. Der Red-Bull-Konzern wies die Beschwerde Ende Februar nach einer wochenlangen Untersuchung ab, der Fall sorgte aber weiter für Kontroversen, erst zuletzt kehrte zumindest in der Öffentlichkeit etwas Ruhe ein.
Laut der Gazetta dello Sport hat Newey (65), der als Aerodynamik-Genie gilt, bereits Kontakt zu Ferrari aufgenommen. Zuletzt sei der Brite am Flughafen von Bologna gesichtet worden, die Ferrari-Zentrale in Maranello ist nur eine Autostunde entfernt.
Newey besitzt bei Red Bull noch einen Vertrag bis Ende 2025. Er arbeitete höchst erfolgreich für Williams, McLaren und Red Bull. Aus seiner Feder stammten die Weltmeister-Rennwagen von Nigel Mansell (1992), Alain Prost (1993), Damon Hill (1996), Jacques Villeneuve (1997/alle Williams), Mika Häkkinen (1998 und 1999/McLaren), Sebastian Vettel (2010 bis 2013) und Max Verstappen (2021 bis 2023/jeweils Red Bull).
Zuletzt hatte Newey erklärt, er bedauere, dass er nie für Ferrari oder mit einer Ikone wie Lewis Hamilton gearbeitet habe. Der siebenmalige Weltmeister Hamilton wechselt 2025 zur Scuderia. "Newey ist Maranellos Traum", kommentierte Corriere dello Sport.
