EM-Traum als Antrieb: Popp vor Comeback "in sehr guter Form"
Fußball-Nationalspielerin Alexandra Popp vom VfL Wolfsburg geht trotz fast neunmonatiger Zwangspause fest von ihrer EM-Teilnahme im Sommer aus. "Das sehe ich sehr optimistisch und positiv. Ich bin zur Zeit schon auf einem recht guten Niveau und habe noch ein gutes halbes Jahr, um 100 Prozent fit zu sein", sagte Popp bei einer Medienrunde am Mittwoch.
Das Comeback rückt für die Kapitänin des Nationalteams und der Wolfsburgerinnen näher. "Natürlich fehlen da noch ein paar Prozente, aber ich sehe mich in sehr guter Form", sagte Popp.
Die 30-Jährige ist nach einem Knorpelabriss an der Kniescheibe, Operation und langer Reha-Zeit wieder voll im Training. Seit April 2021 war sie außer Gefecht - doch der Traum von der ersten EM half ihr auch durch schwere Zeiten mit der quälenden Frage: "Schaffe ich es, schaffe ich es nicht?"
Durch die coronabedingt um ein Jahr verschobene EURO in England (6. bis 31. Juli) stand für Popp aber fest, "dass ich nicht aufgeben werde", obwohl "ich ja auch nicht mehr die Jüngste bin". Eine Verletzung am Sprunggelenk sowie am Knie hatten 2013 und 2017 ihre EM-Träume platzen lassen.
Nun aber ist die Olympiasiegerin von 2016 "sehr positiv gestimmt", im fortgeschrittenen Fußball-Alter ihren EM-Fluch zu beenden. Im Sommer den Titel zu holen, wäre "natürlich das Nonplusultra", so die 111-malige Nationalspielerin.
Womöglich gibt Popp ihr Comeback Ende des Monats. Der DFB-Pokalsieger Wolfsburg startet mit dem Nachholspiel bei Turbine Potsdam am 29. Januar in die zweite Saisonhälfte.
Ob sie mit dem DFB-Team schon zum hochkarätig besetzten Test-Turnier nach England (17. bis 23. Februar) reist, ist noch offen. Die für ihr physisches Spiel und enorme Kopfballstärke berühmte Popp geht die letzten Meter bis zum Comeback jedenfalls "entspannt" an: "Ich bin erst mal froh, dass ich gesund bin, muss ich sagen."
