Berliner Tageblatt - Norman says 'we changed the game' as he officially departs LIV Golf

The Australian was the public face of the Saudi-backed breakaway tour since its inception in 2022, luring a slew of golf's elite stars with big-money deals including Bryson DeChambeau, Dustin Johnson, and Jon Rahm.

But he was also a polarising figure in a rift with the established PGA Tour, which fractured the game and divided players and fans.

He was replaced as chief executive by Scott O'Neill in January.

Former world number one Norman remained involved with the tour, but in a statement on Instagram late Thursday said his time was now up.

"After four unforgettable years, I have officially closed out my time with LIV Golf, and reflecting with nothing but gratitude, pride and achievement," he said.

"Together, we built a movement that changed the game globally. We created opportunities for both players and fans and broaden the ecosystem of golf.

"My commitment to do what was and still is, the right thing for golf, the players and fans never wavered."

Norman did not give details of his future plans, but the 70-year-old suggested he was not done yet.

"As for what's next ... stay tuned!" he said. "Exciting times ahead. Onward to the next adventure."

LIV Golf's 2026 season tees off in Saudi Arabia in February.
