MLS reveals shortened 2027 campaign details
Major League Soccer will play a February-to-May campaign in 2027 to transition into a season schedule that aligns with most football leagues worldwide, organisers announced on Thursday.
The "MLS Sprint Season" will see all 30 teams play 14 regular-season matches from February to April, once either at home or away against each of their conference rivals.
The top eight teams in both the Eastern and Western conference will reach the MLS Cup playoffs, with single-elimination matches until the MLS Cup final in May.
The campaign will determine qualifiers for the 2028 CONCACAF Champions Cup and 2028 Leagues Cup against Mexican Liga MX clubs.
That will set the stage for the kickoff of the 2027-28 season in July 2027, concluding with the 2028 MLS Cup in May 2028.
MLS will have a mid-winter break in the 2027-28 season from mid-December to early February with no league matches scheduled in January.
The current February to December 2026 season will conclude with the MLS Cup final on December 18.
