Schwimm-EM in Rom: Gose gewinnt Silber über 800 m Freistil
Isabel Gose hat den deutschen Schwimmern bei der EM in Rom die erste Medaille beschert. Die 20-Jährige aus Magdeburg schlug im Finale über 800 m Freistil im Foro Italico nach 8:22,01 Minuten als Zweite an und jubelte nach Staffel-Bronze 2018 über ihr erstes Edelmetall in einem Einzelrennen auf der Langbahn.
Die Dritte der Kurzbahn-EM im vergangenen Jahr musste nur der italienischen Titelverteidigerin Simona Quadarella (8:20,54) den Vortritt lassen. Freiwasser-Staffelweltmeisterin Leonie Beck (Würzburg) kam auf Platz acht (8:39,04).
Es war die erste deutsche EM-Medaille auf dieser Strecke seit 2002. Gose hatte bei den Weltmeisterschaften vor sieben Wochen in Budapest als zweitbeste Europäerin Platz sechs belegt. Medaillenchancen rechnet sie sich auch über 400 m aus - auf dieser Strecke war sie bei der WM als beste europäische Schwimmerin Fünfte.
Zuvor hatte der WM-Sechste Lucas Matzerath im Finale über 100 m Brust als Sechster angeschlagen.
