Französische Basketballer drohen Heurtel mit Ausschluss
Vize-Europameister Thomas Heurtel (33) wird wegen seines Vereinswechsels nach Russland vorerst wohl nicht mehr für die französische Basketball-Nationalmannschaft auflaufen. Wie der französische Verband FFBB am Donnerstag mitteilte, werde der Point Guard "für die nächsten internationalen Termine einschließlich der Olympischen Spiele 2024" ausgeschlossen, sofern er tatsächlich für Zenit St. Petersburg auflaufe.
Heurtel hatte am Mittwoch einen Einjahresvertrag mit Option auf eine weitere Saison bei Zenit unterschrieben. Die FFBB hatte bereits vor der Europameisterschaft festgelegt, Spieler aus russischen oder belarussischen Vereinen bis Kriegsende nicht mehr zu nominieren.
Vor dem Turnier hatte jeder Nominierte gar eine eidesstattliche Erklärung unterschreiben müssen, dass er "nicht bei einem russischen oder weißrussischen Verein engagiert ist und nicht vorhat, einen Vertrag zu unterzeichnen".
