Nach der Babypause: Kerber hofft auf Olympia in Paris
Angelique Kerber will ihre Karriere nach ihrer Babypause unbedingt fortsetzen und hofft unter anderem auf die Teilnahme am olympischen Tennisturnier 2024 in Paris. "Ich war ja schon in London und Rio de Janeiro dabei, und es ist schon etwas ganz Besonderes, bei so einem weltbewegenden Ereignis für sein Land zu spielen", sagte die 34-Jährige im Gespräch mit dem Porsche-Newsroom.
Bis dahin sei es ja noch ein bisschen Zeit, sagte Kerber, die im Frühjahr 2023 ihr erstes Kind erwartet: "Ich habe also keinen Druck." Sie werde aber auf jeden Fall versuchen, "so schnell wie möglich wieder fit zu werden und auf die Tour zurückzukehren, allerdings ohne irgendwas zu überstürzen. Und dann will ich auch wieder angreifen. Wenn ich was mache, dann richtig."
Zuletzt hatte die ehemalige Nummer eins der Welt das Eurosport-Team bei der Übertragung der US Open unterstützt und das Frauenfinale zwischen der späteren Turniersiegerin Iga Swiatek (Polen) und Ons Jabeur (Tunesien) kommentiert. "Bei der einen oder anderen Spielerin weiß ich jetzt viel besser, auf was ich achten muss, wenn ich mal wieder auf sie treffe", sagte sie anschließend.
