Italy Claims Curling Silver at European Championships in Ostrava
Italy has secured its first-ever continental curling final appearance, taking home silver at the European Championships in Ostrava. The Trentino Spiller team, featuring Amos Mosaner and Sebastiano Arman, finished second after a tight match against Scotland, marking a significant milestone for the nation's renewed curling program.
Italy has reached its first-ever continental curling final, securing a silver medal at the European Championships in Ostrava, Czech Republic. The Trentino Spiller team finished second after a narrow 6-5 defeat to Scotland in the championship match.
The result marks a historic milestone for Italian curling, which had never previously advanced to the final of the continental tournament. The achievement comes shortly after the dissolution of the former Team Retornaz and the formation of this new roster. The squad consists of young brothers Cesare and Stefano Spiller, alongside experienced players Amos Mosaner and Sebastiano Arman.
The team overcame an initial setback, losing their opening match to Germany, before winning subsequent games to reach the final. The championship match itself was decided by minimal margins, with Scotland prevailing in a close contest that left the Italian squad just short of gold.
The European Championships featured a revised format with two groups of six teams, leading to four semifinalists competing for medals. The performance of the Trentino Spiller team has been viewed as a strong start for Italy’s renewed curling initiative, following the restructuring of its national program this summer.
