BBL: Alba mit Mühe zum Auftaktsieg - EM-Helden noch geschont
Ohne seine deutschen EM-Helden hat Titelverteidiger Alba Berlin die 57. Saison der Basketball Bundesliga (BBL) erfolgreich eröffnet. In einem engen Duell in der Berliner EM-Halle gewann der Doublesieger mit 81:78 (45:45) gegen die Hamburg Towers. Maodo Lo und Johannes Thiemann wurden aufgrund von Trainingsrückstand noch geschont, mit Neuzugang Jonas Wohlfarth-Bottermann kam bei Hamburg immerhin ein Bronzemedaillengewinner zum Einsatz.
"Die EM hat geschlaucht, sowohl mental, als auch körperlich. Deshalb wollte der Trainer uns heute nochmal eine Pause geben", erklärte Thiemann in der Pause bei MagentaSport: "Ich brauche noch ein paar Tage und Wochen um zu realisieren, was wir da geschafft haben."
Zehn Tage nach dem Medaillengewinn der deutschen Nationalmannschaft zeigte sich der Außenseiter aus Hamburg über die komplette Spielzeit ebenbürtig, ging nach einem Remis zur Pause sogar mit einer Führung ins Schlussviertel (65:63). Doch dort hatte der elfmalige Meister aus Berlin die besseren Nerven.
Wohlfarth-Bottermann, der im Sommer von Ludwigsburg nach Hamburg gewechselt ist und von 2013 bis 2016 für Alba gespielt hatte, kam auf drei Punkte und vier Rebounds, er traf nur einen seiner sechs Freiwürfe. Topscorer seiner Towers war der US-Amerikaner Yoeli Childs mit 18 Punkten, Landsmann Luke Sikma bei Alba kam auf 16 Zähler.
