WM: DTTB-Männer als Gruppenzweiter im Achtelfinale
Die deutschen Tischtennis-Männer haben bei der Mannschafts-WM in Chengdu/China den Einzug ins Achtelfinale perfekt gemacht. Im letzten Gruppenspiel setzte sich das Team von Bundestrainer Jörg Roßkopf 3:0 gegen Usbekistan durch und erreichte damit als Zweiter die Runde der letzten 16. Der Gegner wird noch ausgelost.
"Wir sind froh, dass wir am Ende noch Gruppenzweiter geworden sind und damit nicht direkt auf China treffen können. Im Achtelfinale müssen wir auf den Punkt sofort da sein", sagte der deutsche Spitzenspieler Dang Qiu. Den Gruppensieg sicherte sich Frankreich durch ein 3:0 gegen Indien, das dem DTTB-Team die einzige Niederlage beigebracht hatte.
Gegen Usbekistan holten Einzel-Europameister Qui, der 19-jährige Kay Stumper (beide Düsseldorf) und Benedikt Duda (Bergneustadt) jeweils ohne Satzverlust die Punkte. Die deutsche Mannschaft muss in China ohne ihre langjährigen Erfolgsgaranten Timo Boll und Dimitrij Ovtcharov (nach Verletzungen) sowie Jungvater Patrick Franziska auskommen. Das Trio hatte 2021 Olympia-Silber in der Mannschaft gewonnen.
