Matthäus und Effenberg über Alonso-Verpflichtung uneinig
Das Engagement von Xabi Alonso als neuer Trainer von Fußball-Bundesligist Bayer Leverkusen stößt bei Lothar Matthäus und Stefan Effenberg auf ein unterschiedliches Echo. Rekordnationalspieler und Sky-Experte Matthäus unterstrich in einem SID-Gespräch seine Überzeugung von einem erfolgreichen Einstand des spanischen Ex-Stars als Coach einer Topmannschaft, während Effenberg die Verpflichtung des früheren Welt- und Europameisters als Nachfolger von Gerardo Seoane im Nachrichtenportal t-online.de skeptisch beurteilte.
"Xabi Alonso hat schon als intelligenter Spieler wie ein Trainer gedacht und immer einen Schritt weitergeplant. Deswegen hat er bei seinem Heimatverein das Trainer-Handwerk ohne den Druck der großen Fußball-Bühne gelernt. Er weiß dafür jetzt, was es bedeutet, eine Mannschaft zu formen und Einfluss zu nehmen. Er hat sich nicht zu wichtig genommen und nicht gleich bei Real Madrid anfangen wollen, fühlt sich aber jetzt bereit für eine Mannschaft mit Qualität und Ambitionen wie Leverkusen", sagte Matthäus vor der Premiere des 40-Jährigen auf der Bank des Tabellenvorletzten am Samstag (15.30 Uhr/Sky) gegen Aufsteiger Schalke 04.
"Ich sehe", sagte der 61 Jahre alte Kapitän der deutschen Weltmeister-Mannschaft von 1990 über das ehemalige Mittelfeld-Ass von Meister Bayern München weiter, "da kein Risiko. Ich bin überzeugt, dass Leverkusen mit Xabi Alonso noch einen Platz erreicht, der die Mannschaft auch nächste Saison wieder international dabei sein lässt."
Im Gegensatz zu Matthäus hielt sich Effenberg mit Prognosen für Alonsos neue Tätigkeit zurück und verwies auf die Erfolglosigkeit des niederländischen Ex-Stars Mark van Bommel beim VfL Wolfsburg. "Als Persönlichkeit und aufgrund seiner Erfahrung ist Xabi Alonso ein großer Gewinn für die Bundesliga. Große Namen allein garantieren aber keinen Erfolg. Das hat das Beispiel van Bommel gezeigt", sagte der frühere Nationalspieler.
