Die deutschen Volleyballerinnen haben bei der WM im achten Spiel die fünfte Niederlage kassiert und damit auch die letzte kleine Chance auf den Viertelfinaleinzug verspielt. Das Team von Bundestrainer Vital Heynen verlor im polnischen Lodz mit 1:3 (25:19, 18:25, 22:25, 18:25) gegen die Dominikanische Republik und bleibt damit Schlusslicht der Achtergruppe F.
Gegen den Olympia-Neunten von Tokio und Vorletzten der Gruppe erwischte die DVV-Auswahl einen guten Start, fand danach aber vor allem gegen die gegnerische Topangreiferin Brayelin Elizabeth Martinez (28 Punkte) kein Mittel. Beste Scorerin des Heynen-Teams war Außenangreiferin Hanna Orthmann (16).
