Amelie Schoenenwald hält Flug zum Mars für "nicht unerreichbar"
Die Reserveastronautin der europäischen Raumfahrtagentur (ESA), Amelie Schoenenwald, hält einen Flug zum Mars in Zukunft für "nicht unerreichbar". Der Mars sei für sie das "absolute Traumziel", sagte die 33-Jährige am Dienstag im Radio des Bayerischen Rundfunks. "Was ich am allerliebsten machen würde, ist, zuerst zur ISS fliegen und mich dort einfach mal mit dem ganzen Weltraumbusiness familiär machen", ergänzte sie.
In einem nächsten Schritt sei der Mond das allerschönste Ziel, bevor es weiter gehe zum Mars. Ihr sei bewusst, dass das in ferner Zukunft liege, "aber es ist nicht unerreichbar."
Dass sie für das Reserveteam ausgewählt wurde, sei für sie kein Manko, sondern eine Chance. Unter den 22 Mitgliedsstaaten der ESA befinden sich mit Alexander Gerst und Matthias Maurer bereits zwei deutsche Astronauten. Maurer sei zunächst als Reserve-Astronaut ausgewählt und später als Astronaut nominiert worden. "Diesen Optimismus habe ich auch", sagte Schoenenwald.
In der Weltraumfahrt werde derzeit viel privatisiert und kommerzialisiert. Bei der ESA werde darauf geachtet, dass der Zugang zum Weltall besser ausgebaut werde. "Eine der Möglichkeiten wäre, dass mehr Gelder bereitgestellt werden, um endlich auch zu ermöglichen, dass eine deutsche Frau ins Weltall kann."
