Der US-Computerhersteller Dell entlässt weltweit rund 6650 Mitarbeiter. Der Konzern kündigte am Montag an, rund fünf Prozent seiner weltweit 133.000 Stellen zu streichen. Der Vize-Vorstandsvorsitzende Jeff Clarke erklärte zur Begründung, die Marktbedingungen würden sich weiter verschlechtern, die Zukunft sei "ungewiss". Die bisherigen Maßnahmen, um sich auf einen wirtschaftlichen Abschwung vorzubereiten, seien "nicht mehr ausreichend".
In den vergangenen Monaten haben bereits mehrere große US-Technologie-Konzerne umfassende Stellenstreichungen angekündigt, darunter Microsoft, Amazon, Twitter, der Google-Mutterkonzern Alphabet und die Facebook- und Instagram-Mutter Meta. Die Unternehmen hatten während der Corona-Pandemie teilweise in großem Stil eingestellt, als immer mehr Menschen ihre Aktivitäten ins Netz verlagerten.
Inzwischen haben sich die wirtschaftlichen Aussichten deutlich eingetrübt. Dell etwa verzeichnete im dritten Quartal des vergangenen Jahres - für das Unternehmen das dritte Quartal seines Geschäftsjahrs 2023 - einen Umsatzrückgang von sechs Prozent. Der Verkauf von Produkten wie Desktop PCs und Laptops des im texanischen Round Rock angesiedelten Herstellers ging um zehn Prozent zurück.
