Die Luftfahrtbranche fordert Priorität für die Nutzung synthetischer Kraftstoffe. "Solange es zu wenig nachhaltige Kraftstoffe für alle möglichen Nutzer gibt, muss die Luftfahrt priorisiert werden, damit am Ende alle Branchen in der Dekarbonisierung vorankommen", sagte der Präsident des Bundesverbands der Deutschen Luft- und Raumfahrtindustrie (BDLI), Michael Schöllhorn, der "Frankfurter Allgemeinen". Der Präsident des Bundesverbandes der Deutschen Luftfverkehrswirtschaft, Jost Lammers, forderte außerdem mehr staatliche Unterstützung.
Schöllhorn sprach sich dafür aus, dass in Sektoren, wo es Alternativen zu E-Fuels gibt, diese auch genutzt werden. Flugzeuge hingegen würden noch viele Jahre mit flüssigen Kraftstoffen fliegen müssen. "Batterien wären viel zu schwer, mit Autos geht das aber", sagte der BDLI-Präsident und Rüstungschef von Airbus.
Der Flugverkehr soll in den kommenden Jahrzehnten schrittweise auf synthetische Kraftstoffe, sogenannte E-Fuels, umgestellt werden. Eine kürzlich beschlossene EU-Verordnung schreibt beim Tanken an europäischen Flughäfen ab 2025 einen ab dann steigenden Mindestanteil an alternativen Treibstoffen vor. Bis 2050 sollen mehr als zwei Drittel des Kraftstoffs für Flugzeuge aus nachhaltigen Quellen stammen. Bei Verstößen drohen Flughäfen und Fluggesellschaften Geldstrafen.
"Es wird eine riesige Kraftanstrengung werden, um CO2-Neutralität im Luftverkehr zu erreichen", sagte Lammers, der auch Chef des Münchener Flughafens ist, der "FAZ". "Für diese Mammutaufgabe ist mehr staatliche Unterstützung nötig."
