Nasa: Dart-Sonde hat erfolgreich Bahn von Asteroiden verändert
Die erste absichtlich herbeigeführte Kollision einer Raumsonde mit einem Asteroiden war nach Angaben der US-Weltraumagentur Nasa ein Erfolg: Nasa-Chef Bill Nelson sagte am Dienstag, durch den Einschlag der Dart-Sonde im September sei die Umlaufbahn des Asteroidenmondes Dimorphos verkleinert worden.
Brauchte Dimorphos bislang elf Stunden und 55 Minuten für eine Umrundung seines großen Bruders Didymos, sind es demnach jetzt elf Stunden und 23 Minuten. "Wir haben der Welt gezeigt, dass die Nasa ein ernsthafter Verteidiger dieses Planeten ist", sagte Nelson.
Die Weltraumsonde Dart war am 26. September mit einer Geschwindigkeit von mehr als 23.000 Stundenkilometern in den Himmelskörper gerast. Es war das erste Manöver im All überhaupt, mit dem die Abwehr eines die Erde bedrohenden Asteroiden getestet werden sollte. Um im Ernstfall einen gefährlichen Asteroiden an der Erde vorbeizulenken, wären bei einem frühzeitigen Eingreifen auch nur minimale Kursänderungen nötig.
Als Ziel hatte die Nasa ausgerufen, die Umlaufbahn von Dimorphos um bis zu zehn Minuten zu verkürzen. Dieses Ziel wurde nun deutlich übertroffen: Die Verkürzung beträgt 32 Minuten.
