Lula stellt sich hinter Forderung nach Fonds für klimabedingte Schäden
Brasiliens gewählter Präsident Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva hat sich auf der UN-Klimakonferenz hinter die Forderungen nach einem Fonds zum Ausgleich für klimabedingte Schäden gestellt. "Wir brauchen dringend Finanzmechanismen, um die Verluste und Schäden aufzufangen, die durch den Klimawandel verursacht werden", sagte Lula am Mittwochnachmittag in Scharm el-Scheich. Das Thema ist auf der Konferenz heftig umstritten.
Lula bekannte sich zudem erneut zum Schutz des Regenwalds am Amazonas. "Es gibt keine Klimasicherheit für die Welt ohne einen geschützten Amazonas", hob er hervor. Dies bedeutet einen Kurswechsel zur Politik des scheidenden ultrarechten Staatschefs Jair Bolsonaro, in dessen Amtszeit die Abholzung massiv zugenommen hat. Lula hatte sich zuvor bereits dafür ausgesprochen, die UN-Klimakonferenz 2025 in der brasilianischen Amazonas-Region auszurichten.
