ESA wählt zwei Frauen und drei Männer als künftige Astronauten aus
Eine Französin und eine Britin sowie drei Männer aus Belgien, Spanien und der Schweiz bilden die künftige europäische Astronautengruppe. Wie die europäische Raumfahrtagentur (ESA) am Mittwoch in Paris mitteilte, zählen zu der zwölfköpfigen Astronauten-Reserve auch zwei Deutsche, unter ihnen die ehemalige Bundeswehr-Kampfpilotin Nicola Winter.
Die ESA benannte für ihr künftiges Astronauten-Team die Französin Sophie Adenot, die Britin Rosemary Coogan, den Spanier Pablo Álvarez Fernández, den Belgier Raphaël Liégeois und den Schweizer Marco Alain Sieber.
Erstmals wählte die Agentur auch einen "Parastronauten" aus, den Briten John McFall, dem das rechte Bein fehlt. Die ESA will künftig unter anderem auch Erfahrungen sammeln, ob und unter welchen Bedingungen Astronauten mit körperlicher Behinderung in den Weltraum geschickt werden können.
Die neuen Astronauten, die im Deutschen Zentrum für Luft- und Raumfahrt in Köln ausgebildet werden, wurden aus knapp 23.000 Bewerbern ausgewählt. Sie sind die Nachfolger des vorigen Jahrgangs von 2009, zu dem Matthias Maurer und Thomas Pesquet zählen. In deren Jahrgang gab es fünf Männer und eine Frau, die Italienerin Samantha Cristoforetti. Am zweiten Tag des Ministertreffens in Paris verabschiedete die ESA zudem den neuen Haushalt für 2023 bis 2025 in Höhe von 17 Milliarden Euro.
