Etwa jeder dritte Deutsche ist an der Krönung von Charles III. interessiert. In einer am Montag in Köln veröffentlichten Yougov-Umfrage in Kooperation mit Statista gaben 36 Prozent an, dass sie die Krönungszeremonie am 6. Mai zumindest teilweise live im Fernsehen verfolgen wollen. Bei den Frauen haben dies 40 Prozent vor, bei den Männern 33 Prozent. Zudem sind ältere Befragte über 55 Jahre zu 38 Prozent eher als jüngere Menschen zwischen 18 und 24 Jahren mit 31 Prozent an der Krönung interessiert.
Mit 54 Prozent glaubt rund die Hälfte der Deutschen, dass Charles ein guter König sein wird. Etwa jeder Fünfte - 19 Prozent - denkt das nicht. 44 Prozent der Befragten sagten, dass Charles sein Amt in etwa genauso gut ausüben wird wie Queen Elizabeth II., seine verstorbene Mutter.
Allerdings hält fast jeder zweite Befragte die Monarchie generell für überholt. 48 Prozent sind der Meinung, dass es nicht mehr zeitgemäß ist, einen König beziehungsweise eine Königin zu haben. it 23 Prozent hätte knapp jeder Vierte in Deutschland hingegen gern ein Königshaus, 63 Prozent wollen dies nicht. Befragt wurden vom 6. bis 10. April mehr als 2000 Menschen.
Die britische Königin Elizabeth II. war am 8. September 2022 nach 70 Jahren auf dem Thron im Alter von 96 Jahren gestorben. Daraufhin trat ihr ältester Sohn Charles ihre Nachfolge an. Seine feierliche Krönung findet am 6. Mai in der Westminster Abbey in London statt. Unter den rund 2000 Gästen wird auch Bundespräsident Frank-Walter Steinmeier als Vertreter Deutschlands sein.
