Kirsten Dunst ist in ihrer Rolle als Kriegsreporterin in dem Film "Civil War" an die Spitze der US-Kinocharts gestürmt. Gleich an seinem ersten Wochenende habe der dystopische Thriller Platz eins der meistgesehenen Filme erreicht, teilte am Montag der Branchendienst Exhibitor Relations mit. Für "Civil War" seien an den Kinokassen in den USA und Kanada Karten für 25,7 Millionen Dollar (gut 24 Millionen Euro) verkauft worden.
In dem Film geht es um eine in naher Zukunft angesiedelte Vision einer USA, die sich in einem furchtbaren Bürgerkrieg befindet. Kirsten Dunst reist darin unter Einsatz ihres Lebens als Reporterin durch das zerrüttete Land. Das Werk des britischen Regisseurs Alex Garland findet unter anderem deshalb großen Widerhall in den USA, weil vor den anstehenden Präsidentschaftswahlen viele Menschen Angst vor einer weiteren Spaltung ihres Landes haben.
In Deutschland kommt "Civil War" am Donnerstag in die Kinos.
