Zwei deutsche Astronauten bereiten sich auf Mondmission vor
Zwei deutsche Astronauten sollen sich auf die Erkundung des Mondes vorbereiten. Alexander Gerst und Matthias Maurer gehören zusammen mit fünf weiteren europäischen Astronauten zur Mannschaft der Europäischen Raumfahrtagentur ESA für das Artemis-Programms, wie die ESA am Mittwoch in Paris mitteilte. Sie haben demnach alle mindestens eine Mission auf der Internationalen Raumstation ISS absolviert und zusammen 4,5 Jahre im Weltall verbracht.
Artemis ist ein Programm der US-Raumfahrtbehörde Nasa, um wieder Astronauten zum Mond und später auch Richtung Mars zu bringen. Auch Deutschland und die ESA sind maßgeblich daran beteiligt.
Zuerst ist eine unbemannte Mission geplant, deren Start bereits mehrfach verschoben wurde und nun für frühestens Ende September geplant ist. 2024 sollen Astronauten dann in eine Umlaufbahn um den Mond gebracht werden, frühestens ab 2025 sollen auch wieder Menschen auf dem Mond landen.
Von den sieben europäischen Astronauten werden nur drei das Lunar Gateway, die künftige Station in der Mondumlaufbahn, und nur einer den Mondboden betreten. Wer das sein wird, steht der ESA zufolge noch nicht fest. Neben den Deutschen Gerst und Maurer gehören auch Astronautinnen und Astronauten aus Frankreich, Italien, Dänemark und Großbritannien zum Team.
"Mit einem Europäer auf dem Mond hoffe ich, dass das vereinte Europa mehr Realität wird, als es heute ist", sagte Maurer. Derweil soll das Astronautentraining weiterentwickelt werden, insbesondere im Europäischen Astronautenzentrum in Köln. Dort wird Maurer zufolge ein Simulator der Oberfläche des Mondes und des gefährlichen Mondstaubs gebaut.
