Serbische Forscher benennen Insekt nach Tennis-Star Djokovic
Flink und zäh wie eine Tennis-Legende: Wissenschaftler der Universität Belgrad haben eine neu entdeckte Insekten-Spezies nach dem langjährigen Weltranglisten-Ersten Novak Djokovic benannt. Der in einer Grotte in einer Bergregion in Westserbien erstmals festgestellte Duvalus Djokovici sei ein "unterirdisches Raubtier - so, wie Novak eine Art Raubtier auf dem Tennisplatz ist", sagte Biologieprofessor Nikola Vesovic am Freitag der Nachrichtenagentur AFP.
Den Namen des Gewinners von 21 Grand-Slam-Turnieren habe seine Forschergruppe dem Insekt wegen dessen Schnelligkeit, Zähigkeit und Biegsamkeit verliehen, ergänzte Vesovic. Das Insekt sei "sehr klein, vollkommen blind und farblos" und mit besonders langen Beinen und Antennen ausgestattet.
Duvalus Djokovici ist nicht das erste Tierchen, das den Namen des serbischen Tennis-Champions erhält. Im vergangenen Jahr war eine in Serbiens Nachbarstaat Montenegro entdeckte Süßwasserschnecke auf den Namen Travunijana Djokovici getauft worden.
Der 35-jährige Djokovic nimmt derzeit am ATP-500 Turnier im kasachischen Astana teil. Auf die Grand-Slam-Turniere Australian Open und US Open hatte der Serbe verzichten müssen, weil er eine Corona-Impfung verweigert.
