Basketballerin Griner nach Gefangenenaustausch in die USA zurückgekehrt
Die nach einem spektakulären Gefangenenaustausch aus russischer Haft entlassene US-Basketballerin Brittney Griner ist in ihre Heimat zurückgekehrt. Sie landete am frühen Freitagmorgen (Ortszeit) auf einem Flughafen im US-Bundesstaat Texas, wie auf Aufnahmen der Sender CNN und Fox News zu sehen war.
Die 32-Jährige war nach Angaben aus Washington und Moskau am Donnerstag am Flughafen von Abu Dhabi gegen den zuvor in den USA inhaftierten russischen Waffenhändler Viktor Bout ausgetauscht worden.
Die auch in Russland spielende US-Basketballerin war im Februar bei ihrer Ankunft an einem Moskauer Flughafen festgenommen worden. In ihrem Gepäck waren Kartuschen für E-Zigaretten mit geringen Mengen Cannabisöl gefunden worden. Griner nahm das Cannabis nach eigenen Angaben, um Schmerzen infolge von Sportverletzungen zu dämpfen. In Russland ist aber auch ein medizinischer Einsatz der Droge illegal.
Im August wurde Griner wegen Drogenschmuggels zu neun Jahren Haft verurteilt. Später wurde sie in eine abgelegene russische Strafkolonie verlegt.
Auf russischer Seite kam der berüchtigte Waffenhändler Viktor Bout frei, der seit mehr als zehn Jahren in den USA eine 25-jährige Haftstrafe verbüßte. Er soll Waffen in zahlreiche Krisengebiete geliefert haben und wurde deswegen auch "Händler des Todes" genannt. Der 55-Jährige wurde am Freitag am Flughafen von Moskau von seiner Familie in Empfang genommen.
