US-Sänger Usher soll in der Halbzeit-Show des nächsten "Super Bowl", also des Finales der US-Football-Liga NFL, auftreten. Das kündigten die NFL und der Pop- und R&B-Star am Sonntag an. Usher nannte den für den 11. Februar in Las Vegas im US-Bundesstaat Nevada geplanten Auftritt in einem Statement "eine große Ehre". "Ich kann es kaum erwarten, der Welt eine Show zu bieten, wie sie sie noch nie zuvor von mir gesehen hat", erklärte Usher.
Der 44-Jährige aus Atlanta zählt zu den US-Künstlern mit den meisten verkauften Platten der frühen 2000er Jahre. Usher hat auch Hits für andere Stars geschrieben, darunter Rapper Lil Jon und Soul-Sängerin Alicia Keys. Es könnte also durchaus sein, dass er bei dem großen Auftritt im Februar nicht allein auf der Bühne steht.
Die Halbzeit-Show des "Super Bowl" zählt zu den begehrtesten Auftrittsmöglichkeiten unter den Stars - die TV-Übertragung hat ein Millionenpublikum. Im Jahr 2022 haben sie Schätzungen zufolge mehr als 113 Millionen Menschen verfolgt.
Die Show wird seit 2019 von Roc Nation produziert, dem Plattenlabel des Rap-Moguls Jay-Z. In der Vergangenheit waren bereits namhafte Größen wie Shakira, Jennifer Lopez und Eminem dort aufgetreten. Im Februar 2023 sang Rihanna bei der Halbzeit-Show des "Super Bowl" ihre größten Hits.
