US-Senat stimmt für Gesetz zur Stärkung von Schlüsselindustrien im Wettbewerb mit China
Mit einem dutzende Milliarden Dollar umfassenden Plan wollen die USA heimische Schlüsselindustrien im Wettbewerb mit China stärken. Der Senat votierte am Montag für einen Teil eines umfassenden Gesetzestexts, mit dem vor allem Sektoren wie die Halbleiterindustrie gestärkt werden sollen. Damit reagiert das Land auch auf den weltweiten Chipmangel.
Anfang Februar hatte das US-Repräsentantenhaus bereits für ein ganz ähnliches Gesetz gestimmt, einen Text mit dem Namen "America Competes". Nun müssen sich beide Kammern auf einen gemeinsamen Text einigen. Im April soll mit Verhandlungen über einen einheitlichen Gesetzestext begonnen werden, eine Abstimmung darüber könnte im Mai oder Juni folgen.
Der Mehrheitsführer der Demokraten im US-Senat, Chuck Schumer, sprach nun von einem der wichtigsten Projekte der aktuellen Legislatur. Mit dem Gesetz sollten nicht nur Arbeitsplätze geschaffen, sondern auch die Kosten für Familien gesenkt werden. Mit den Investitionen werde angestrebt, wichtige Technologieprodukte wie Halbleiter in den USA zu produzieren und zudem die Herstellung aus dem Ausland ins Inland zurückzuholen, sagte Schumer.
Die Sprecherin des Weißen Hauses, Jen Psaki, lobte das Votum im Senat. Es zeige, dass sich die Parteien einig über die Notwendigkeit dieser Investitionen seien, die Präsident Joe Biden schon seit langem unterstütze. Beide Gesetzesentwürfe sehen Investitionen in Höhe von 52 Milliarden Dollar (gut 47 Milliarden Euro) in heimische Technologieforschung und Industrie vor.
