Zahl deutscher Studierender im Ausland in erstem Coronajahr nur leicht gesunken
Die Zahl der deutschen Studierenden im Ausland ist im ersten Coronajahr 2020 lediglich leicht zurückgegangen. Sie sank nach Angaben des Statistischen Bundesamts vom Freitag im Vergleich zum Vorjahr 2019 um 4500 oder 3,3 Prozent auf rund 133.400. Deutlich rückläufig waren die Zahlen demnach für China mit einem Minus von 4700 und den USA mit einem Rückgang um 3600. Dagegen stieg die Zahl der Studierenden in Nachbarstaaten wie Österreich und den Niederlanden.
Wie das Bundesamt in Wiesbaden weiter mitteilte, ließ die Statistik aber keine Aussage darüber zu, ob die Auslandsstudierenden tatsächlich vor Ort waren oder ihr Studium angesichts der Pandemie etwa auf virtuellem Weg aus dem Homeoffice absolvierten. Die beliebtesten Zielländer für deutsche Studierende waren demnach Österreich, die Niederlande und Großbritannien. Auf diese drei Staaten entfielen rund 53 Prozent aller Auslandsaufenthalte.
