Tropensturm "Kay" bringt Entspannung bei Kampf gegen Feuer in Kalifornien
Nach einem Tropensturm mit Regen und kühleren Temperaturen hat die kalifornische Feuerwehr einen großen Waldbrand zurückdrängen können. Wie die Feuerwehr mitteilte, war das "Fairview"-Feuer außerhalb Los Angeles am Samstagabend (Ortszeit) zu 40 Prozent unter Kontrolle.
"Die Feueraktivität wurde durch die Feuchtigkeit des Tropensturms 'Kay' stark reduziert", erklärte die kalifornische Behörde für Forstwirtschaft und Feuerschutz. Jedoch warnten die Behörden vor dem Risiko von Sturzfluten und Schlammlawinen in Gegenden, wo der Boden die plötzlichen Regenfälle nicht aufnehmen könne.
Die Flammen waren am Montag in der Nähe der Ortschaft Hemet südöstlich von Los Angeles ausgebrochen. Durch den Brand kamen zwei Menschen ums Leben, Tausende mussten ihre Häuser verlassen.
