EU-Kommission empfiehlt Einfrieren von EU-Mitteln in Milliardenhöhe für Ungarn
Die Europäische Kommission hat am Mittwoch den Mitgliedstaaten das Einfrieren von mehr als 13 Milliarden Euro an EU-Mitteln für Ungarn empfohlen. Von Budapest angekündigte Reformschritte zur Verbesserung der Unabhängigkeit der Justiz und zur Bekämpfung von Korruption in Ungarn reichten bislang nicht aus, erklärte die Kommission in Brüssel. Die Mitgliedstaaten haben nun bis zum 19. Dezember Zeit, über die Empfehlung zu entscheiden.
Dabei geht es um 7,5 Milliarden Euro, die Ungarn ursprünglich im Rahmen der EU-Haushaltsperiode bis 2027 ausgezahlt hätten werden sollen. Die Europäische Kommission entschied darüber hinaus, von Budapest beantragte Mittel aus dem Corona-Hilfsfonds in Höhe von 5,8 Milliarden Euro weiterhin zurückzuhalten. Die Kommission will das Geld erst freigeben, wenn Ungarn die angekündigten Reformschritte umgesetzt hat.
