Deutschland will weitere Gepard-Luftabwehrpanzer an die Ukraine liefern, die Regierung nennt dazu aber bislang keine Details. Es sei richtig, dass "wir nochmal eine Anzahl von Gepard-Panzern in Richtung Ukraine auf den Weg schicken werden", sagte Regierungssprecher Steffen Hebestreit am Mittwoch lediglich in Berlin.
Er bezog sich dabei auf eine Äußerung von Bundeskanzler Olaf Scholz (SPD) vom Dienstagabend. "Gerade haben wir noch einmal neue Liefermöglichkeiten für den 'Gepard' auf den Weg gebracht", sagte Scholz auf einer Veranstaltung mit Wirtschaftsvertretern.
Der Kanzler habe zu dem Thema "alles gesagt, was zum jetzigen Zeitpunkt gesagt werden kann", sagte dazu nun Hebestreit. Er wies darauf hin, dass die Regierung normalerweise erst im Nachhinein darüber berichte, was an Rüstungsgütern an die Ukraine geliefert worden sei.
Das Thema kam demnach auch in einem Telefonat von Scholz am Dienstag mit dem ukrainischen Präsidenten Wolodymyr Selenskyj zur Sprache. Darin hatte Scholz auch generell weitere Unterstützung für die Ukraine zugesichert.
Die Ukraine hat bereits 30 Gepard-Panzer aus deutschen Industriebeständen erhalten. Die Bundeswehr verfügt seit Jahren nicht mehr über dieses Waffensystem. Zur Herkunft der zusätzlich zu liefernden Panzer äußerte sich Hebestreit nicht.
Vor dem Hintergrund der massiven russischen Angriffe auf zivile Infrastruktur in der Ukraine, vor allem auf Einrichtungen der Energieversorgung, dringt das Land auf westliche Unterstützung durch die Lieferung weiterer Luftabwehrsysteme. Beim Treffen der Nato-Außenminister in Bukarest hatte die ukrainische Regierung die Militärallianz aufgefordert, auch moderne Patriot-Luftabwehrsysteme an Kiew zu liefern.
