Ex-Korruptionsjäger Pieth regt UEFA-Austritt aus der FIFA an
Der als Korruptionsjäger bekannte Schweizer Mark Pieth hat angesichts der zahlreichen Skandale rund um die WM-Endrunde in Katar einen Austritt der Europäischen Fußball-Union (UEFA) aus dem Weltverband FIFA angeregt. "Finanziell würde das funktionieren, da ist die UEFA gut aufgestellt. Die Sponsoren sind primär an Europa interessiert", sagte Pieth im FAZ-Interview.
Der 69-Jährige stand von 2011 bis 2013 an der Spitze einer FIFA-Governance-Kommission, legte aber sein Amt wegen zahlreicher interner Widerstände nach zwei Jahren nieder. Zwar müsse man bei einer Trennung der UEFA von der FIFA mit Verhältnissen wie im Profiboxen rechnen, "aber wenn der Monopolist FIFA derart schlecht funktioniert, wäre es sinnvoll, über Alternativen nachzudenken."
Vom aktuellen FIFA-Präsidenten Gianni Infantino seien keinerlei Reformbestrebungen zu erwarten. Pieth: "Er ist ein Autokrat. Mit seiner irren Rede zum WM-Auftakt hat er gezeigt, dass er irgendwie wirr ist - und das ist noch das Harmloseste, was man über ihn sagen kann. Andere Leute sprachen von einem medizinischen Befund."
