Pelé: "Ich bin stark und habe viel Hoffnung"
Nach sorgenvollen Berichten über seinen Gesundheitszustand hat sich der brasilianische Fußball-Star Pelé aus dem Krankenhaus zu Wort gemeldet. "Ich bin stark, habe viel Hoffnung und setzte meine Behandlung wie gewohnt fort", schrieb der 82-Jährige am Samstag auf Instagram. Der dreifache Fußball-Weltmeister bedankte sich zudem für die Genesungswünsche aus aller Welt, die ihm "viel Kraft" gegeben hätten.
Pelé war am Dienstag zur Behandlung seiner Darmkrebs-Erkrankung ins Krankenhaus eingeliefert worden. Er wurde zudem wegen einer Atemwegsinfektion behandelt.
Pelés Gesundheitszustand sei "stabil", erklärten ihrerseits am Samstag die Ärzte im Albert-Einstein-Krankenhaus in São Paulo. "Er spricht angemessen auf die Behandlung seiner Atemwegsinfektion an, ohne dass es in den vergangenen 24 Stunden zu einer Verschlechterung gekommen ist."
Zuvor hatten Gerüchte über eine massive Verschlechterung des Gesundheitszustands des 82-Jährigen die Runde gemacht. Brasilianische Medien berichteten, Pelé werde palliativmedizinisch betreut. Der französische Fußballstar Kylian Mbappé rief auf Twitter daraufhin zum "Beten" für den "König" auf, Englands Kapitän Harry Kane sagte auf einer Pressekonferenz: "Wir senden ihm unsere besten Wünsche und natürlich auch seiner ganzen Familie." In Doha im WM-Gastgeberland Katar wurde ein Bild Pelés mit Genesungswünschen an die Fassaden mehrerer Gebäude projiziert.
Edson Arantes do Nascimento, genannt Pelé, gilt als einer der größten Fußballer aller Zeiten. In den vergangenen Jahren hatte der Fußball-Weltmeister von 1958, 1962 und 1970 immer wieder mit gesundheitlichen Problemen zu kämpfen. Im September 2021 war Pelé ein Tumor am Dickdarm entfernt worden, seitdem musste er sich einer Chemotherapie unterziehen.
