Manchester City hat im Rennen um die englische Fußball-Meisterschaft die Gunst der Stunde nicht genutzt. Der Titelverteidiger unterlag am Sonntag bei Tottenham Hotspur 0:1 (0:1) und konnte kein Kapital aus der ersten Niederlage des Tabellenführers FC Arsenal in der Premier League nach 154 Tagen schlagen.
Die Gunners hatten tags zuvor beim FC Everton 0:1 (0:0) verloren. Der Rückstand der Skyblues, bei denen Nationalspieler Ilkay Gündogan bis zur 84. Minute auf der Bank saß, beträgt weiter fünf Punkte.
Tottenhams Stürmerstar Harry Kane krönte sich mit seinem 267. Tor in der 15. Minute zum Rekordschützen der Spurs. Es war sein 200. Treffer in der Premier League.
