Para-Langläufer Maier gewinnt Silber - Kazmaier holt Bronze
Skilangläufer Marco Maier hat bei den Paralympischen Winterspielen in Peking seine zweite Silbermedaille gewonnen. Der 22 Jahre alte Oberstdorfer musste sich im Sprint-Finale der stehenden Klasse nur dem Franzosen Benjamin Daviet geschlagen geben. Die 15-jährige Linn Kazmaier lief in der Sehbehinderten-Klasse mit Guide Florian Baumann zu Bronze.
"Ich habe ein unglaubliches Gefühl", sagte Maier, der seinen knappen Vorsprung vor dem Ukrainer Grigori Wowtschinski auf der Zielgerade behauptete: "Es hätte noch alles passieren können." Zuvor hatte der Kurzstreckenspezialist verhalten begonnen. Bei widrigen Bedingungen auf nassem Schnee lief er dann bis auf den zweiten Rang vor, Daviet war jedoch bereits enteilt.
"Das ist der Maier-Turbo", sagte Friedhelm Julius Beucher, Präsident des Deutschen Behindertensportverband (DBS): "Das war eine starke läuferische aber auch taktische Leistung." Zuvor hatte Maier in Zhangjiakou bei seinem Debüt den zweiten Platz im Biathlon-Sprint erreicht.
Kazmaier, die im Biathlon-Sprint und über die Langdistanz im Langlauf bereits die Silbermedaille gewonnen hatte, kam deutlich hinter der siegreichen Österreicherin Carina Edlinger und Oxana Schischkowa aus der Ukraine ins Ziel. "Es war wieder eine sensationelle Leistung", sagte Beucher. Biathlon-Siegerin Leonie Walter landete mit Guide Pirmin Strecker im gleichen Rennen auf dem vierten Rang.
