Volleyballerinnen scheitern im EM-Achtelfinale
Die deutschen Volleyballerinnen sind im Achtelfinale der Europameisterschaft ausgeschieden. Die Mannschaft von Bundestrainer Vital Heynen unterlag am Sonntag in Brüssel Favorit Polen mit 0:3 (22:25, 20:25, 24:26) und muss nach der insgesamt vierten Niederlage in Serie die Heimreise antreten.
Für die Auswahl des Deutschen Volleyball-Verbandes (DVV) endete damit ein enttäuschendes Turnier. Die Vorrundengruppe C in Düsseldorf hatte Deutschland mit zwei Siegen und drei Niederlagen nur auf dem dritten Platz abgeschlossen. Als Konsequenz folgte in der ersten K.o.-Runde mit den Polinnen direkt ein starker Gegner. Nach dem EM-Aus richtet sich der Fokus des deutschen Teams nun auf das Olympia-Qualifikationsturnier im polnischen Lodz (16. bis 24. September).
