"Freue mich mega": Neugebauer legt im Zehnkampf los
Gut zwei Wochen nach seinem deutschen Hallen-Rekord legt Leo Neugebauer (23) nun auch im Zehnkampf los - und will bei den Texas Relays an seinem College in Austin Schwung für die Olympischen Spiele in Paris aufnehmen. "Olympia steht für mich über allem", sagte Neugebauer dem SID, "die größte Bühne überhaupt". Was er als WM-Fünfter in Budapest verpasst hat, hofft Neugebauer in vier Monaten in Paris nachzuholen: "Mein Traum wäre es, dort eine Medaille zu gewinnen. Das wäre sehr, sehr cool."
Doch am Mittwoch und Donnerstag steht für Neugebauer erst einmal der erste Zehnkampf der Saison an, und zwar im eigenen "Wohnzimmer" auf dem Campus der Universität von Texas. "Der Wettkampf findet auf meinem Homeground statt, ich mag das sehr. Viele Zuschauer werden da sein", sagte der Wirtschafts-Student: "Also ich freue mich da schon mega drauf, muss ich sagen. Wir haben uns sehr gut vorbereitet und ich fühle mich absolut top".
Was möglich ist, wenn Neugebauer absolut top drauf ist, hat er erst vor gut zwei Wochen gezeigt. Mit 6347 Punkten brach Neugebauer den alten deutschen Hallen-Rekord im Siebenkampf von Frank Busemann, damit hält er nun beide deutschen Bestmarken im Mehrkampf. Im Vorjahr hatte Neugebauer den deutschen Zehnkampf-Rekord auf 8.836 Punkte verbessert und war damit zum Hoffnungsträger für Olympia in der kriselnden deutschen Leichtathletik aufgestiegen.
Nun gilt es, auf dem Weg zum Saisonhighlight die erste Duftmarke zu setzen. Eine genaue Punktzahl hat Neugebauer dabei noch nicht im Kopf, für den Athleten vom VfB Stuttgart steht vor rund 20.000 Fans erst einmal die Qualifikation für die College-Meisterschaften Anfang Juni im Vordergrund. Aber "das wird kein großes Problem sein", sagte Neugebauer.
