Deutschland und Norwegen bilden Partnerschaft zur CO2-Speicherung unter der Nordsee
Deutschland und Norwegen haben eine Partnerschaft zur Speicherung von Kohlenstoffdioxid unter der Nordsee vereinbart. Die beiden Energiefirmen Wintershall Dea und Equinor präsentierten am Dienstag Pläne zum Bau einer 900 Kilometer langen Pipeline, die CO2 aus Deutschland zur "untermeerischen" Speicherung in der Norwegischen Nordsee transportieren soll. Ziel sei es, "gemeinsam eine technische und kommerzielle Lösung" für Transport und Speicherung von CO2 zu finden.
Konkret ist geplant, die Pipeline von Norddeutschland aus mit Speicherstätten in Norwegen zu verbinden. Sie soll "noch vor 2032" in Betrieb gehen, wie beide Unternehmen betonten. Die Pipeline hat demnach eine erwartete Transportkapazität von 20 bis 40 Millionen Tonnen CO2 pro Jahr. Das seien rund 20 Prozent der gesamten deutschen Industrieemissionen pro Jahr, hieß es.
Die Abscheidung und Speicherung von Kohlenstoff gilt im Kampf gegen die Erderwärmung als geeignete Technologie, um die Dekarbonisierung der Industrie voranzutreiben. Dazu soll das klimaschädliche CO2 aus Kraftwerken und Industrieanlagen abgesondert und langfristig unterirdisch gespeichert werden, etwa in alten Gas- und Öllagerstätten oder Gesteinsschichten.
Während Deutschland in Europa der größte CO2-Emittent ist, verfügt Norwegen über das größte Potenzial zur Speicherung des klimaschädlichen Gases.
