Drohne der US-Armee nach 908 Tagen im All wieder gelandet
Eine Raumfahrtdrohne der US-Armee ist nach fast zweieinhalb Jahren im All wieder zur Erde zurückgekehrt. Das unbemannte Raumfahrzeug X-37B sei am Samstag am US-Weltraumbahnhof Kennedy Space Center gelandet, teilte das US-Unternehmen Boeing mit. Die Drohne, die erstmals 2010 ins All gestartet war, hat nun insgesamt mehr als zehn Jahre im Weltraum verbracht und während sechs Missionen mehr als 1,3 Milliarden Meilen zurückgelegt.
Sie hat eine Länge von neun Metern und eine Spannweite von 4,50 Metern und wird durch Solarzellen angetrieben. Das Raumfahrzeug war im Geheimen von der United Launch Alliance, einem Joint Venture der US-Unternehmen Boeing und Lockheed Martin, für die US-Armee entwickelt worden.
Vor seinem letzten Start im Mai 2020 hatte das Pentagon erklärt, die Mission diene einer Reihe wissenschaftlicher Experimente. Unter anderem solle untersucht werden, wie bestimmte Materialien im Weltraum reagieren und wie sich die Strahlung im Weltraum auf verschiedene Samen auswirke.
