Sarg der verstorbenen Queen Elizabeth II. auf dem Weg zur Westminster Abbey
Der Sarg der verstorbenen britischen Königin Elizabeth II. ist auf dem Weg zur Trauerfeier in der Londoner Westminster Abbey. Rot uniformierte Träger hoben den Sarg am Montagvormittag von seinem Katafalk in der Westminster Hall, wo er zuvor mehr als vier Tage lang aufgebahrt war, und brachten ihn zu einer Kanonenlafette vor dem Nordtor des Gebäudes. Die zwei Tonnen schwere historische Lafette wird von 142 jungen Marinen-Soldaten mit Tauen bis zur Westminster Abbey gezogen.
Um 12.00 Uhr MESZ beginnt in der Westminster Abbey das Staatsbegräbnis für die Queen. An der Trauerfeier nehmen rund 2000 Gäste teil, darunter zahlreiche Staatsoberhäupter und Monarchen aus aller Welt. Anschließend wird der Sarg der Queen in einer Prozession bis zum Triumphbogen Wellington Arch gezogen, von wo aus er mit dem Leichenwagen zum 35 Kilometer entfernten Schloss Windsor gebracht wird.
An einer im Fernsehen übertragenen Beisetzungsfeier in der dortigen St. George's Chapel (17.00 Uhr MESZ) nehmen mehr als 800 Gäste teil, neben Mitgliedern der Königsfamilie und Politikern auch ehemalige Mitarbeiter der Verstorbenen. Am Abend (20.30 MESZ) wird die Queen dann in der König George VI.-Gedächtniskapelle im engsten Familienkreis beigesetzt.
