Mindestens vier Tote durch Taifun "Nanmadol" in Japan
Durch den heftigen Taifun "Nanmadol" sind im Südwesten Japans mindestens vier Menschen ums Leben gekommen. Ein Regierungssprecher bestätigte am Dienstag zwei Todesfälle, bei zwei weiteren stand die ärztliche Bescheinigung noch aus. Die endgültige Zahl der Opfer könnte noch steigen.
"Nanmadol" war am Sonntag mit Windgeschwindigkeiten von bis zu 234 Stundenkilometern und heftigem Regen in Kyushu, einer der Hauptinseln Japans, auf Land getroffen und entlang der Küste in Richtung Nordosten weitergezogen. Auf seinem Weg schwächte sich der Taifun immer weiter ab, am Dienstag stuften ihn die Behörden zu einem außertropischen Zyklon herab.
Die schwersten Schäden richtete "Nanmadol" auf Kyushu an. In der besonders betroffenen Präfektur Miyazaki fiel innerhalb von 24 Stunden soviel Regen wie sonst binnen eines Monats. Dort wurde am Dienstag noch nach einem Vermissten gesucht. Bei zwei weiteren Opfern war zunächst unklar, ob ihr Tod mit dem Taifun zusammenhing.
Insgesamt wurden mehr als 110 Menschen verletzt. 140.000 Haushalte, vorwiegend auf Kyushu, waren am Dienstag weiter ohne Strom.
Die Taifun-Saison in Japan hat von August bis September ihren Höhepunkt. Das Land wird jedes Jahr von etwa 20 schweren Stürmen und in deren Gefolge von Starkregen heimgesucht, der zu plötzlichen Überschwemmungen und Erdrutschen führen kann. Vor drei Jahren kamen durch den Taifun "Hagibis" mehr als hundert Menschen ums Leben. Wissenschaftler sind überzeugt, dass die Zahl der extremen Wetterphänomene durch den Klimawandel zunimmt.
