Papst in Marseille: Gedenken für im Mittelmeer ertrunkene Flüchtlinge geplant
Papst Franziskus ist am Freitag zu einem zweitägigen Besuch in Marseille eingetroffen, den er dem Schicksal der über das Mittelmeer kommenden Flüchtlinge widmen will. Nach einem Gebet in der Kirche Notre-Dame de la Garde, die auf einem Hügel über der südfranzösischen Hafenstadt liegt, will er der auf der Flucht im Mittelmeer ertrunkenen Migranten gedenken. "Das Mittelmeer ist zu einem Friedhof geworden", betont der Papst immer wieder.
Anlass der Reise ist ein Treffen von Bischöfen und jungen Menschen aus Mittelmeer-Anrainerstaaten. Ein Treffen mit Frankreichs Präsident Emmanuel Macron ist am Samstagvormittag geplant. Macron will auch an der Abschlussmesse mit knapp 60.000 Menschen im Vélodrome von Marseille am Samstag teilnehmen. Die linke Opposition hatte Macron kurz vor der Ankunft des Papstes aufgefordert, dessen Aufruf zu mehr Barmherzigkeit für Migranten Folge zu leisten.
Es ist das erste Mal seit dem 16. Jahrhundert, dass ein Papst Marseille besucht. Benedikt XVI. hatte 2008 Paris und Lourdes besucht. Franziskus war 2014 in Straßburg im EU-Parlament gewesen.
