Biden will Kampf gegen Hunger und schlechte Ernährung in USA neuen Schwung geben
US-Präsident Joe Biden will dem Kampf gegen Hunger und schlechte Ernährung in seinem Land neuen Schwung geben. Biden bekräftigte am Mittwoch bei einer Konferenz des Weißen Hauses das Ziel, bis ins Jahr 2030 den Hunger in den USA zu beenden und die Zahl ernährungsbedingter Erkrankungen zu senken. Biden sprach von "ehrgeizigen Zielen" und betonte: "Ich weiß, dass wir es schaffen können."
Der Präsident sagte bei der Konferenz des Weißen Hauses zu Hunger, Ernährung und Gesundheit, aus dem öffentlichen Sektor und dem Privatsektor seien Zusagen von insgesamt acht Milliarden Dollar zusammengekommen. Zu den Gebern gehören nach Angaben des Weißen Hauses die Schnellrestaurant-Kette Burger King, der Industrieriese GE und der US-Restaurantverband.
Die US-Regierung will unter anderem mehr Kindern Zugang zu kostenlosem Schulessen bieten - und die Qualität des Schulessens verbessern. Außerdem soll es bessere Informationen über gesunde Lebensmittel und mehr Möglichkeiten zum Sport geben.
In den USA gelten knapp 42 Prozent der Erwachsenen als schwer übergewichtig. Gleichzeitig leiden rund zehn Prozent aller Haushalte unter Ernährungsunsicherheit.
