Exporte von Plastikmüll ins Ausland innerhalb von zehn Jahren halbiert
Deutschland verschifft immer weniger seines Plastikmülls ins Ausland. Im vergangenen Jahr betrugen die Ausfuhren noch 745.100 Tonnen, wie das Statistische Bundesamt in Wiesbaden am Dienstag mitteilte. Damit hat sich die Menge der exportierten Kunststoffabfälle in den vergangenen zehn Jahren mehr als halbiert (minus 51 Prozent) - vor allem wegen Einfuhrbeschränkungen einiger asiatischer Länder.
Deutschland ist damit EU-weit weiterhin der größte Exporteur von Kunststoffabfällen, der Abstand zu den anderen Staaten schrumpfte jedoch deutlich. Der meiste Plastikmüll aus Deutschland ging in den Nachbarstaat Niederlande, an zweiter und dritter Stelle der wichtigsten Abnehmerstaaten folgten die Türkei und Polen.
Die Niederlande wiederum exportieren viel Abfall über ihren Hafen in Rotterdam weiter. Im EU-Vergleich ist das Land der zweitgrößte Müllexporteur, gefolgt von Belgien, das mit Antwerpen ebenfalls über einen bedeutenden Containerhafen verfügt.
Das Statistische Bundesamt teilte diese Angaben anlässlich des Welttages der Ozeane am 8. Juni mit. Plastikmüll auch aus westlichen Industriestaaten landet Untersuchungen zufolge häufig in den Weltmeeren und belastet die Umwelt stark.
