EU-Gipfel: Militärhilfen für die Ukraine und Gaza-Krieg im Mittelpunkt
Die Staats- und Regierungschefs der Europäischen Union kommen ab Donnerstag in Brüssel zu ihrem Frühjahrsgipfel zusammen (14.00 Uhr). Im Mittelpunkt des zweitägigen Treffens stehen weitere Militärhilfen für die Ukraine. Daneben geht es um die künftige Verteidigungsstrategie der EU, den Gaza-Krieg und die EU-Erweiterung.
Der Gipfel beginnt mit einem Arbeitsessen mit UN-Generalsekretär António Guterres zur humanitären Notlage im Gazastreifen. Danach geht es um die Ukraine. Erwartet wird ein Videoappell von Präsident Wolodymyr Selenskyj. Bundeskanzler Olaf Scholz (SPD) will die EU-Partner nach Berliner Angaben ebenfalls dazu aufrufen, mehr Waffen und Munition an die Ukraine zu liefern.
Vor dem EU-Gipfel findet in Brüssel ein sogenannter Atomgipfel statt. Dazu eingeladen haben Belgien und die Internationale Atomenergiebehörde (IAEA). Frankreichs Präsident Emmanuel Macron und andere Kernkraft-Befürworter haben sich angemeldet.
