Schweiz legt vor: Zentralbank senkt Leitzinsen
Die Schweiz hat geldpolitisch vorgelegt und die Leitzinsen wieder gesenkt. Die Schweizer National Bank (SNB) in Zürich verkündete am Donnerstag eine Zinssenkung um 0,25 Punkte auf 1,5 Prozent. Andere wichtige Zentralbanken haben auf diesen Schritt bislang verzichtet. Die US-Notenbank Fed ließ den Leitzins am Mittwoch ein weiteres Mal unverändert, die norwegische und die britische Zentralbank taten es ihr am Donnerstag gleich.
Die SNB überraschte mit ihrer Entscheidung die Analysten. Die meisten Beobachter hatten damit gerechnet, dass die Schweizer gemeinsam mit der Europäischen Zentralbank (EZB) und der Fed im Juni die Zinswende einläuten würden. Es sei nicht darum gegangen, als erstes zu handeln, sagte SNB-Chef Thomas Jordan. Die Zeit sei reif gewesen. "Die Lockerung unserer Geldpolitik wurde möglich, weil die Bekämpfung der Inflation über die letzten zweieinhalb Jahre wirksam war."
Die Inflation in der Eidgenossenschaft war im Februar weiter zurückgegangen und lag im Vergleich zum Vorjahresmonat bei 1,2 Prozent - also unterhalb des angestrebten Zielwerts von zwei Prozent. Die SNB gehe davon aus, dass die Teuerungsrate vorerst auf diesem Niveau bleiben werde, erklärte sie. Jegliche Prognosen seien aber von großer Unsicherheit geprägt.
Die Fed hatte sich am Mittwoch wie erwartet für eine weitere Zinspause entschieden. In den USA bleiben die Leitzinsen demnach in einer Spanne von 5,25 bis 5,5 Prozent. Zugleich stellte die Fed für dieses Jahr drei Zinssenkungen in Aussicht.
Die norwegische Zentralbank hielt ihren Satz ebenfalls konstant, bei 4,5 Prozent. In ihrer Prognose geht sie davon aus, dass es erst im Herbst Absenkungen geben werde. Die Inflation in dem skandinavischen Land lag im Februar weiterhin vergleichsweise hoch, bei 4,5 Prozent.
Ähnliches gilt für Großbritannien und die Bank of England: Die Inflation gehe zurück, aber bleibe noch auf zu hohem Niveau, erklärte ihr Chef, Andrew Bailey, zur Begründung. "Wir sind noch nicht an dem Punkt, an dem wir die Zinsen senken können." Sie bleiben daher vorerst bei 5,25 Prozent.
