EU-Innenminister beraten über Schengen-Erweiterung
Die Innenminister der Europäischen Union beraten am Donnerstag in Brüssel über eine Erweiterung des Schengen-Raums ohne Grenzkontrollen (ab 10.00 Uhr). Die EU-Kommission dringt auf eine Aufnahme von Kroatien, Rumänien und Bulgarien. Von den drei Ländern kann aber nur Kroatien auf einen raschen Schengen-Beitritt hoffen.
Österreich hat ein Veto gegen die Aufnahme Bulgariens und Rumäniens angekündigt und begründet dies mit der steigenden Zahl von Migranten über die Balkanroute. Für einen Beschluss ist Einstimmigkeit erforderlich. Daneben beraten die Innenminister auch über die zusätzlichen Flüchtlinge aus der Ukraine, die in diesem Winter wegen des russischen Angriffskriegs erwartet werden. Viele deutsche Kommunen beklagen bereits jetzt eine Überlastung.
